Things to do at Leeuwin-Naturaliste
Last reviewed · verify live conditions with Explore Parks WA / DBCA
Most first visits revolve around Sugarloaf Rock and the Cape Naturaliste cluster, with Canal Rocks as a short coastal drama stop. Longer stays add Boranup Forest, beaches or Cape Leeuwin. The Cape to Cape Track is a different sport for multi-day or carefully planned day sections. Do not try to collect every node on a first visit.

Day one rule
Pick one primary experience (usually northern icons or one beach block). Do not collect both lighthouses and three beaches on a first day.
Weather / energy bail-out
Formed lookouts, town reset or forest shade beat forced rock edges in huge swell, heat or hangry kids. Bail-outs are competence.
Cape to Cape filter
Day sections need car plans and water. End-to-end multi-day is earned logistics — not an impulse add-on after a lighthouse selfie.
- 1
Sugarloaf Rock & Cape Naturaliste
Icon lookouts · easy access · peak weekends busy
The classic northern first-visit cluster — lighthouse precinct, short coastal walks and the conical Sugarloaf stack. Peak parking pressure; tower tours are paid and separate from free day use.
- 2
Canal Rocks
Short stop · swell risk · photography
Granite channels and surge theatre near Yallingup. Short stop, high ocean power — formed paths only; wet rock and swell are not photo props.
- 3
Cape to Cape Track (day sections or multi-day)
Multi-day or day sections · status-critical · logistics first
The spine story of the ridge (~123–130 km end-to-end). Most visitors sample day sections with car plans — end-to-end is multi-day logistics, water and camps. Verify live alignment on Trails WA / Explore Parks WA.
- 4
Boranup Karri Forest
Scenic drive · shade · southern half
Tall pale karri, scenic drive and lookout energy — the cool forest contrast to open coast. Check fire danger in summer; drive to conditions on narrow forest roads.
- 5
Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse
Southern icon · wind · Augusta base
Southern full stop: mainland Australia’s tallest lighthouse setting and Cape to Cape finish energy. Tower tours are paid and timed; headland atmosphere still works if tours are full.
- 6
Beaches & Hamelin Bay
Beaches · rips · family with supervision
Yallingup to Prevelly, Redgate, Conto and Hamelin Bay — sand and surf culture with real rips and changing conditions. Swim only within your skill; protect lighthouse timing if pairing with Cape Leeuwin.
- 7
Caves & lighthouse tours (paid add-ons)
Paid · timed · VERIFY hours
Limestone cave experiences and tower climbs are usually separate paid operator products — not park entry. Excellent weather Plan Bs when tickets and hours work; never assume walk-up in peak holidays.
